Lady Nancy Astor

 

Nancy (Witcher) Astor, Viscountess Astor (1879–1964) British politician, born in Danville, Virginia, USA. Wife of Waldorf Astor, she succeeded her husband as Conservative MP for Plymouth in 1919, and was the first woman to take a seat in the House of Commons. She was known for her interest in social problems, especially temperance and women's rights.
