The Affenpinscher requires firm but loving guidance, for it can be obstinate. He is an alert, fearless and inquisitive dog. They have a terrier-like personality. Unlike most terriers, they tend to get along with other dogs and pets especially when they are raised with them. They are busy, bold, inquisitive and stubborn, but they also love to monkey around, being playful and mischievous. A lively sharp-witted, little dog that is courageous and confident. It is very affectionate and amusing. This friendly little dog enjoys being with its family. They are not recommended for very young children, as Affenpinschers tend to guard their food and toys.

The Afghan has low intelligence, is difficult to maintain and very active outdoors. They are hard to train, have a high prey drive, therefore the dog is somewhat aggressive and is not usually good with children. The typical Afghan Hound can be aloof and dignified, but happy and clownish when playing.

An extremely strong and active dog that is very territorial therefore it makes an excellent guard dog. Not very good with children and other animals. They have low intelligence and are difficult to train. Not recommended for most people.

Training: Not difficult, may encounter some stubbornness.

A highly intelligent breed although stubborn which makes training difficult. They have a high prey drive and are extremely active and not good with other animals. They do not adapt well to warm climates. The Akita is docile, but sometimes spontaneous. Careful and very affectionate with its family. They are intelligent, courageous and fearless. The Akita is a first class guard dog. They are extremely faithful and thrive on companionship. They are very aggressive to other dogs and animals and should therefore never be allowed to run off its lead around other animals. It should definitely be supervised when with other household pets and children. Although the breed may tolerate and be good with children from his own family, he may not accept other children.

Average Weight: 100 Pounds
Health Issues: Quite a number of concerns including hip, thyroid & skin problems. Caution should be exercised.
Training: Relatively easy but requires much reinforcement.
Living Conditions: Apartments possible although will need lots of exercise. Would do best with medium to large yard.
Life Expectancy: 10 - 12 Years

Highly intelligent and active but stubborn, somewhat difficult to train. Not good with smaller animals including dogs but usually friendly to strangers and excellent with children. They do not adapt well to warm climates. Their affectionate nature does not make them useful as watch or guard dogs.

Training: Relatively easy for experienced dog owner/handler, requires firm handling and obedience.

He is protective of its home and family, although he does not threaten to bite or attack people. They are naturally wary of strangers, but once introduced, they become instant friends.

Foxhounds usually enjoy the company of other dogs and can become bored if kept alone. A bored foxhound will find ways to keep themselves entertained and can be very destructive. They are sweet, kind, loyal, and very loving. As with all hounds they need careful training and constant socialization.

American Staffordshire Terrier

The American Staffordshire Terrier is good-natured, stable, and responsive to things around them, it has given outstanding results as a guardian of property. Extremely loyal this dog wants nothing more then to please its master. The American Staffordshire Terrier does well with children and adults when socialized from a puppy, but tend to be territorial especially towards other animals and should not be left unsupervised around them. A very intelligent dog but can be difficult to train due to its independence. This dog should not be considered by a potential owner who does not have previous experience with the breed as the result could be disastrous.

Highly territorial, he is a natural guard and is distrustful of strangers. The Anatolian was developed to be independent and forceful, responsible on its own for guarding its master's flocks. These traits make it more challenging as a pet; owners of dogs of this breed must determinedly socialize the dogs to turn them into appropriate companions. They become very protective of other animals in the household, and will treat them as their "flock." They have also been known to kill bears to protect their charges.

Health Issues: Generally healthy breed. Sensitive to anesthesia. Immune system takes longer to develop than most other breeds.
Training: Although quick to learn and easy to train it can be stubborn and dominant, not a dog for beginners.

A working, herding breed, the Australian Cattle Dog is not suited to life alone in the backyard. One of the most intelligent breeds, it can become easily bored, leading to serious behavior problems. They are sometimes suspicious of people and dogs they don't know. It can be very dog aggressive, for its dominance level is high. Not good with children except for family members it has known since a puppy.
