Cleaning Solutions |
| Rust |
| (1) Remove rust from metals by soaking in white vinegar. |
| (2) Remove rust from metal surfaces by soaking several minutes in full-strength ammonia. |
| Sawdust |
| Pick up sawdust using a Bounce Dryer Softener Sheet. |
| Scuff Marks - Linoleum |
| Scrub mark with toothpaste then rinse. |
| Shelf Paper Removal |
| Run a warm iron over the paper, it will peel off easily. |
| Shower Curtains |
| Add a cup of liquid bleach to the warm water in your washing machine when you're washing a plastic shower curtain to remove all mildew. |
| Shower Doors |
| (1) To remove soap scum, spray with Resolve spot remover, wipe with a sponge and then rinse. |
| (2) Use a soft cloth moistened with baby oil, prevents scum build up and hard water spots. |
| (3) Wipe with a fabric softener on a damp cloth and buff with a clean dry cloth. |
| (4) Wipe with a used dry dryer sheet. |
| (5) To prevent soap scum and mildew, coat shower doors with a light coat of mineral oil or lemon oil. |
| Shower Walls |
| Apply car wax to the tiles in the shower to prevent water stains. |
| Showerheads |
| Lime deposits can be removed from showerheads by removing the head and boiling in a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water. |
| Silverware - Tarnished |
| (1) Line a cake pan with aluminum foil. Fill with water and add 1 tablespoon of baking soda per 2 cups of water. Heat to 150 degrees then lay silverware in pan touching the aluminum foil. |
| (2) Line a pan with a sheet of aluminum foil or use an aluminum pan. Stir 3 teaspoons of baking soda to each quart of water. Lay silver in pan making sure it touches the foil. |
| (3) Put a sheet of aluminum foil in a non-metallic pan. Add 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon of baking soda per quart of water and bring to boil. Lay silver in pan touching foil until tarnish is gone. |
| (4) Boil in an old aluminum pot with 1 tablespoon salt and 1 tablespoon baking soda to 1 quart of water. |
| (5) Run 1 quart of hot water into the sink, and one tablespoon washing soda and 1 tablespoon salt. Place a sheet of aluminum foil in the bottom of the sink. Place the tarnished silverware onto the aluminum foil. This also works with gold and silver jewelry as well. |
| Soap Scum |
| Use Spray n Wash. |
| Sponges |
| Toss them into the dishwasher to keep them clean and fresh smelling. |
| Spot Remover |
| Make your own spot remover by mixing 1 part rubbing alcohol to 2 parts water. |
| Stainless Steel |
| Use as small amount of rubbing alcohol on a sponge or paper towel. |
| Stainless Steel Sinks |
| (1) Clean spots with rubbing alcohol. |
| (2) Scour with club soda (must still have its fizz). |
| (3) Clean by gently scouring with salt. |
| Stoves |
| Sprinkle spills while oven is still hot. When oven is cool and spills are dry clean with a stiff brush or cloth. |
| Stuffed Animals |
| Add a cup of baking soda to a clean plastic bag, drop toy, and shake vigorously. Remove the toy and shake it over the garbage can to remove the remaining powder. |
| Teflon Pans |
| (1) Boil for 10 minutes in a pan a mixture of 1 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 1/2 cup of liquid bleach. Wash in soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Prior to using wipe the surface with salad oil. |
| (2) If scraping is necessary, use an old credit card to prevent scratching the pan. |
| Tennis Shoes |
| White tennis shoes will stay whiter if sprayed with spray starch. |
| Thermos |
| Drop two tablets of denture cleaner into the water filled thermos, let stand over night then rinse. |
