The Itaipu Dam is located near the Brazil - Paraguay border on the Paean river in Brazil. Construction began in 1975 finishing in 1982 and required 30,000 people to build at a cost in excess of $20 billion. The dam is close to 5 miles long and is over 600 feet high.
